Ludvig Åberg’s historic dominance at RSM Classic leaves fans in awe

PGA Tour rookie Ludvig Åberg has had quite the ride during his first season. After turning pro earlier this summer, all the 24-year-old Scandinavian has done is impress.

That continued again Sunday, as Åberg put together a performance for the ages. He captured his first PGA Tour title at the RSM Classic, posting a 9-under 61 to win by four strokes.

He didn’t just win going away though. His total score of 253 (29-under) tied for the lowest four-round score in PGA Tour history. His back-to-back 61’s to close out the tournament sits atop the list as the greatest final two rounds ever, in any PGA Tour event.

This comes on the heels of his first professional win at the Omega European Masters in September.

The talent, resilience and sheer force this young man puts on display on a weekly basis is truly something to behold. Fans have noticed too.

Earlier this fall, Åberg was selected as a captain’s pick to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup. Many questioned the selection considering his lack of experience. Yet, the young Swede proved the doubters wrong and helped embarrass Team USA. He picked up two points for the Europeans, including the historic domination alongside Viktor Hovland of Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka.

The former Texas Tech Red Raider was a standout golfer in college and his game has immediately translated to the professional ranks.

Since the John Deere Classic in July, Åberg has been remarkably consistent. He has seven top-14 finishes in nine events, including two wins and four top-4’s.

The win Sunday will allow Åberg entry into the first three Signature Events of 2024. He also will be in the Masters field next April. If he continues to play this well, more records just might fall.
